Over the hump and getting a lump
This past Monday (Thanksgiving Monday) we reached the halfway mark in this pregnancy. To mark the occasion we took a picture of my belly profile (the first picture of the pregnancy) to send to friends and family back home. What a shock! I knew I was getting bigger around the middle but I had no idea just how pregnant I'm starting to look. It's wonderful to finally start to really, really show but it was hard to reconcile the idea I have of what I look like and the picture...they were just way too different. When I showed the people at work, they were surprised to see how big I looked in the picture too. I can't even begin to imagine what I'm going to be like in the months to come. The books say I'll be gaining about a pound a week - A POUND A WEEK! from now until the end. Yikers.
More importantly, it's about time I shared news of our 18 week ultrasound. I was hoping to have the ultrasound posted on the web by now but no such luck - Noel is way too busy at work these days to get it done. So that will just come later sometime...
The 18 week ultrasound was so much better than our 12 week one - and it's all because this time we had a wonderful, caring, human technician. She was funny and she showed us so much - it was incredible. It was amazing to see the chambers of the heart all working, the spine (looking very spiney), and all the other limbs and organs. Everything looks great from where I was laying. We had decided ages ago that we'd really like to know the sex of the baby and the night before this ultrasound I was so scared/excited I could hardly sleep. Once I was laying there, seeing our baby I realized it didn't matter what sex he or she was...her heart and her spine and her brain were all good and that was what mattered. I'd almost decided to not ask the sex when Noel piped up...then I couldn't resist. The technician was surprised that we wanted to know but she quickly found the 'bum region' and showed us what was going on between those perfect little legs...WE'RE HAVING A GIRL! Now ultrasounds are not 100% accurate for predicting these things but the baby seemed to be in the right position to tell so we're going with that verdict. A girl...Molly Rose Corkey-Flatters.
It's strange but it really does make so much of a difference being able to think of the baby as a person now that we have a name (not that calling the baby Cletus or Yogi Flatters-Flatters wasn't fun). It's also great that soon after finding out who our baby was going to be, I started to feel movement. Noel even thinks he felt something going on one night while I was asleep.
Like my Dad said when he saw the picture of my profile, "WOW - Molly Rose is for real."
